What is the first thing that comes to mind when you’re deciding what to eat?
Do you immediately think about how many calories it has?
Do you tell yourself that you’re undeserving of the food you want to eat?
Do you feel guilty after you eat and vow to make better choices next time?
These patterns of guilt, deprivation, and judgment can get us stuck in endless cycles of disordered eating, and can even lead to life-threatening eating disorders.
We are all exposed to harmful messages about food—sometimes from the media, sometimes from well-meaning friends and family members, and sometimes from our own inner critics. These messages can interfere with daily life and take us further away from our true selves. When we can better understand what food can do for our bodies, rather than to our bodies, it becomes more manageable. After all, our bodies are our vehicles through which we experience the world, so giving it the care it deserves can be life-changing.
At Appetite For Life Nutrition, Jamie will use her years of experience in nutrition counseling for people who struggle with eating disorders, disordered eating, and chronic dieting, to help you make peace with food. She can help you cut through the misinformation, harsh judgments, and dieting cycles and learn how to make food (and life!) enjoyable again.
